Being a teenager can feel overwhelming. School pressure, friendships, bullying, social media, family conflict, relationships, identity, and the pressure to fit in can leave teens feeling anxious, stressed, isolated, or unsure of themselves. At Sequoia Counseling, we provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where teens can feel heard, understood, and accepted.
Our therapists help adolescents navigate concerns such as anxiety, depression, school stress, bullying, low self-esteem, ADHD, friendship and relationship difficulties, family conflict, trauma, and major life changes.
Using evidence-based approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and growth-mindset strategies, we help teens understand their emotions while developing practical coping skills they can use in everyday life. Therapy can support healthier communication, emotional regulation, confidence, boundaries, problem-solving, and resilience.
We believe connection is an important part of therapy. Our goal isn't simply to tell teens what to do—it's to create a relationship where they can safely explore what they're experiencing, discover their strengths, and develop healthier ways to manage life's challenges.
We offer teen counseling in person in Fair Oaks and through secure telehealth throughout California.

Trauma can affect more than our thoughts—it can influence how the body and nervous system respond to stress, relationships, memories, and everyday experiences. At Sequoia Counseling, we use a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the important connection between the mind, body, and nervous system.
Our clinicians incorporate an understanding of Polyvagal Theory to help clients recognize patterns of nervous system activation, including fight, flight, freeze, and shutdown responses. Learning to identify these responses can help clients develop greater awareness, regulation, and a sense of safety within themselves.
Trauma therapy may also incorporate approaches such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping) and Brainspotting. EFT uses gentle tapping while focusing on emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations to support emotional regulation and processing. Brainspotting uses specific points within a client's visual field to support focused processing of difficult emotions and traumatic experiences.
Rather than focusing only on talking about what happened, our approach helps clients explore how experiences may continue to affect their emotions, beliefs, behaviors, and nervous system responses.
Our goal is to create a safe, collaborative space where clients can process difficult experiences at their own pace, strengthen emotional regulation, reconnect with themselves, and move toward greater resilience and well-being.

Anxiety can affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, sleep, concentration, and ability to feel present in everyday life. At Sequoia Counseling, we help adolescents and adults better understand their anxiety while developing practical skills to manage overwhelming thoughts, emotions, and physical responses.
Our clinicians utilize evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). CBT can help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns, understand how thoughts influence emotions and behaviors, and develop healthier ways of responding. DBT provides practical strategies for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.
We also incorporate mindfulness techniques to help clients slow down, become more aware of their internal experiences, and learn to respond to anxiety rather than feeling controlled by it.
An important part of anxiety treatment is developing coping skills that can be used outside of therapy. Clients learn individualized strategies for managing worry, reducing emotional overwhelm, grounding during periods of heightened anxiety, and approaching difficult situations with greater confidence.
Our goal is to help clients understand their anxiety, strengthen their ability to cope with life's challenges, and build the skills needed to experience greater calm, confidence, and emotional well-being.
